On October 2 a new exhibit will open at Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the new Resnick Exhibition Pavilion entitled Fashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail, 1700-1915.  Pulled from their collection of more than 1,000 pieces, selections will include silk embroidered stockings, French Revolution propaganda menswear, and a Paul Poiret designed evening outfit.  Most of the collection was acquired in 2007 by museum director Michael Govan and the exhibit is being curated by Sharon Takeda and Kaye Spilker.

This promises to be a ground breaking exhibit featuring the handcrafted, one of a kind clothing of the European aristocracy and the evolution it went through during this 200-year span.  The details on these items are a representation of the best of the best in tailoring, hand work, and construction.  The exhibition catalog will have a pre-face by John Galliano and will hopefully be sold in the LACMA Shop for those of us who might not be able to make it to L.A. but don't want to miss this.

Mid-Point by MANGO

MNG

The department store  JcPenney has a new line premiering this fall ~ MNG by MANGO.  A designer collaboration exclusively for JcPenney with the European brand MANGO based out of Barcelona, Spain.  Mango expanded to the U.S. market in 2006.  This new collaboration with JcPenney follows other designer exclusive brands for the store including I 'Heart' Ronson with Charlotte Ronson and more recently Olsenboye with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

For a mid-range department store, JcPenney is bringing stylish, affordable clothing and accessories to a market that would normally not have the opportunity to find a designer name at this price point, short of heading to a discount store.  For those of us whose nearest Macy's or Neiman Marcus is 70 miles away and like the actual act of mall shopping JcPenney's new lines are a breath of fresh air... and style.

Update to the Races

Although it really was quite entertaining to watch the ducks race, for some reason I don't think they were enjoying themselves very much!

Great American Duck Race

and the Award goes to...

It might not be the Oscars but it is still a Red Carpet! At this year's Emmys glam was definitely the way to go. Most of the gowns were form fitting in demure colors or jewel tones, mainly blues and purples.

My personal favorites were...
Jayma Mays

Emily Deschanel

Jennifer Carpenter

Salsa!

Main Street Salsa Fest

Today is the annual Las Cruces Salsafest! Besides salsa tasting and judging, there are food vendors, craft vendors and good music.  I will be tasting and voting and probably shopping! Hopefully lots of people will come out for this community event.

Weekend at the Races

This weekend is the annual Great American Duck Race in Deming (here).  I am planning on being there and hopefully winning a race! The ducks are $5 and you have to yell and clap and do anything you can to get your duck down the chute and to the finish line first.  There are also wet and dry races, I'll be participating in both.  The theme this year, obviously, is pirates so there may be some costumes involved, we shall see...

Put a Little Prep in Your Step

With 'Back to School' happening and football games right around the corner I am feeling a little preppy for fall. For a more grown-up version of the collegiate look I like this quirky sweater, rather than a rugby stripe or traditional cardi, and the cropped pants with low-heeled oxfords seems preppy but vintage at the same time. And I love the Fossil bag! A simple long necklace finishes this look off perfectly.

cardigan ~ Anthropologie $128 (here)
button-up shirt ~ Gap $49.50 (here)
cropped skinny khaki pants ~ Old Navy $25 (here)

gold chain ~ Banana Republic $35 (here)

A Place for My Findings

I am an avid online shopper, searcher, and general browser.  Before, I had no where to put this found knowledge, who would care that I found a killer pair of motorcycle boots for 60% off(here)?! Or that there is a new exhibit at the Farm and Ranch Museum(here)?!

So, I decided to tell those of you who want to know. I will post the things from around the web that interest me, inspire me, or just disturb me. I hope you'll enjoy!
