Halloween at the First Ever Amusement Park

Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen was the first amusement park ever built and at Halloween the park is turned into a haunted wonderland.  My sister and brother-in-law are there right now!

The Planning Stage

Trying to determine A's and my costumes this year takes pre-planning.  It has to be relatively affordable, comfortable, and matching.  Right now we're thinking Dexter and Rita with a plastic baby...even though one of them got killed off last season. It would be easy for me because she basically wears sun-dresses and Dexter kills in cargo pants and a waffle Henley. All that we would have to get is a plastic baby, fake blood, and (fake?) knife for "Dexter" to carry. What do you think?

Yummy!

Cute and easy cookie ideas to give out instead of the traditional candies.  Even if you don't have trick-or-treaters you could take these to work, give them to neighbors, or just keep around the house in cute containers (as long as you don't eat them all!)

31 Days of Halloween...Starting NOW

October in Amsterdam.  Halloween isn't a widely celebrated holiday in the Netherlands but Amsterdam has it's share of clubs that will host outrageous and outrageously themed parties. Last year one club's theme was "Halloween Hairball" where costumes had to be centered around hair styles! This year at Boom Chicago the theme will be "Mad Science." Of course there is always the traditional Dutch Girl costume route.
Here are some Amsterdam-themed costume ideas:
Dutch Girl
Red Light District
Air Hostess (you have to fly there, right?)

 have fun on your trip!

A Fall Wedding.

Last fall my best friend got married here.  It was everything a late summer/early fall wedding should be.  The jewel-tone colored flowers and natural elements were perfect for the location and time of year.  Happy Anniversary!

Pumpkin Seeds

Something I have never done is roast the seeds out of my jack'o'lanterns.  I have always wanted to try it and since this is the weekend we will begin the carving I might just.

Here are some easy instructions I found on A Country Farmhouse via So Said She.

Fall Decor

Picture via Better Homes and Gardens October 2010

Decorating doesn't always have to mean themed this time of year.  I like these pieces that add a fall touch but can be used longer than two months.  They also offer  a good backdrop for when the pumpkins do come out...

Viva Terra Recycled Glass Bottle Vases ~ $39 - $79
Pottery Barn Sunburst Quilt and Sham ~ $99 - $599
Wisteria Coffee Table ~ $899

Pottery Barn Bird Dinner Plates ~ $49

Retro Fun Weekend Project

This is a cute project over on the I Love to Create Blog.

These Sweater Clips would be fun for a child's cardigan as the weather gets chillier or as a kitschy weekend accessories for yourself.  I'm thinking an anchor and a heart. Any ideas?

Halloween

New items in my Etsy shop for Halloween!

Hello Fall.

These cute velvet pumpkins are made by Lynne Bonnell of Phoenix, Arizona.  The stems are real pumpkin stems that she collects at the end of each season from pumpkin fields in the area.  Bonnell works out of her home and besides making pumpkins she collects them too.  She sells her velvet pumpkins in every size, shape, and color to local Phoenix shops.

The trail to this Chinese Tea House is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.  I hope the tea is worth the climb...

My Shopping Soulmate

I just came across this blog, shoppingsmycardio, and I L-O-V-E it!  It has been hard for me to find something floating out there in the blogosphere that has styles that I actually like and would wear AND are somewhat affordable (i.e. not all designer, all the time).  There are plenty of blogs about personal style and I read them but most of the outfits are not my taste or a little unrealistic for everyday life.  I am so excited to make shoppingsmycardio a daily read!
